Symposium 1 'Mismatch in sexual and reproductive health communication as reported by adolescents and their parents in a border context of Central Uganda'
Dr Patricia Ndugga is a public health expert and a population scientist with a PhD in Demography and Social Statistics from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. She is currently based at the Department of Population Studies, School of Statistics and Planning, Makerere University, Uganda.
She is a lecturer and researcher with over 12 years working experience in the field of Demography, Advocacy, and Sexual and Reproductive health. She has authored a number of journal articles, and technical reports on maternal and adolescent health focusing on HIV/AIDS, family planning, fertility and related reproductive health issues.
Dr Ndugga will be at Ghent University as part of the jury for the public defense of Mrs Susan Babirye on 24th May.
Symposium 2 'Calcium for Preventing Hypertension During Pregnancy: The Research Journey from Observation to Population-Level Implementation'
Professor Dr José Belizán is an obstetrician, Doctor in Biology of Reproduction from Salvador University, Buenos Aires, and Doctor in Medicine from Rosario University, Rosario. He currently works as principal investigator in the Department of Research in Maternal and Child Health, Institute for Clinical Effectiveness in Argentina.
He is an Associate Professor at Tulane University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and Senior Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina (CONICET). He has more than 270 publications indexed in Pubmed, including in high-impact journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, British Medical Journal, and JAMA. In Scopus he has an H-index of 61 and more than 12000 citations. In Google Scholar an H-index of 80 and more than 28,000 citations. He received the 2023 Gairdner Award in Global Science.
Dr Belizan will be at Ghent University as part of the jury for a public defense.
