Ms. Marusya Lieveld

Researcher

Marusya Lieveld, MSBS, MSc Molecular Biotechnology, PhD student Drs. Lieveld graduated in 2007 as a Master in Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences, Ghent University. In 2009 Drs. Lieveld obtained her Master in Molecular Biotechnology at the Faculty of Sciences, Ghent University. During her first thesis, she investigated gene expression profiles in cancer using Quantitative PCR (qPCR). During her second thesis she analysed surface molecules in Gram-positive bacteria that confer binding to the mucosa of their animal host. After graduation she did research on molecular biomarkers for bone cancer (Giant Cell Tumor of Bone). In addition she optimised highly sensitive and paraffin-robust molecular methods to accurately detect mutations in lung cancer, colon cancer and melanoma.
Currently, Marusya is performing her PhD at ICRH; she focuses on molecular markers in HPV-induced cervical cancer and she is supervisor for several MSc dissertations.
